NCNCA has gone lean on road events in 2023, but we were treated to a flat and fast industrial park crit last Saturday and a (relatively) flat and fast (not) road race last Sunday. While I raced with teammates, we didn't really race together. But, we ate post-race together so that counts for something! Specifically, I had a plan to sit in the field on Saturday and save my mojo for Sunday. Ott slipped into the early break and snagged some Nation's Giant Burgers cash, I sprinted in the field and took 2nd to Jerome Nadel in the "picked separately" 60+ field. Over to Sunday, where the 65+ field race separately from the 60s so I missed out on racing with Kevin Metcalfe. However, I did get to play "seamstress" in keeping the frisky 65+ field together for a field sprint, so 52 miles boring and two miles of excitement! I took the win, my 161st NCNCA championship, but just my 3rd ever road race title, so it was a pretty special day (I rarely ride for 2.5+ hours) Thanks go out to Chris for his leadership, committment to our team, sense of humour and love of cheeseburgers.
